Our Story
LabShares was born of a small biotech success story. CEO and Founder Jeff Behrens, a serial entrepreneur in the life science space, began his search for lab space in Newton in 2014 while serving as CEO for Siamab Therapeutics. Tired of the long commute to Cambridge, he led Siamab build a lab in ChapelBridge Park in the Nonantum section of Newton, a community of historical mill buildings repurposed for today's needs. Siamab thrived at ChapelBridge park through its successful exit in 2019.
With Siamab's exit leaving the lab space unoccupied, Jeff began work to re-fit the space as an incubator. This idea was fueled by his own experiences at Siamab; he wanted small, "scrappy" startups to have access to amenities offered by top-tier labs in Kendall Square without the drawbacks of commute fatigue, parking costs, and high real estate prices. Thus, LabShares was born with the mission to provide top-quality service to a diverse group of life science startups.
Since the initial opening of LabShares in 2018, the company has expanded several times and now occupies more than triple our initial footprint. We now offer a wide range of utilities and resources to companies seeking as little as one bench all the way up to large private suites. Though we continue to grow, our purpose remains the same; to deliver fully equipped, outfitted, and permitted lab space, staffed by industry-savvy professionals ready to help members find the answer to any question while they focus on discovering the cures of tomorrow.
