LabShares COVID-19 Response

As warnings from the CDC and WHO escalate regarding the COVID-19 virus, we have decided to take further precautions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community.

At this time, all non-essential businesses remain closed per Governor Baker; LabShares been able to remain open on a limited basis because biotech labs are considered essential businesses. During this time, we have implemented a number of new procedures, rules, and infrastructure changes to help ensure we stay open and safe.

The current LabShares policies and activities to ensure safe operations include:

  • All office personnel should work from home whenever possible.

  • Lab personnel should enter the facility to perform lab work only, then work remotely.

  • LabShares staff rotates on-site, with a presence of 4-6 hours/day to further reduce the footprint in the office.

  • We disinfect common surfaces 2x daily and remain onsite for normal maintenance of office and lab (receiving, Q&A, equipment support)

  • All in-person meetings are suspended, and conference rooms are closed.

  • No guests should visit LabShares at this time.

  • CBP (office park) Staff has been asked to refrain from entering unless essential.

  • We have installed No-Touch Purell dispensers through the building. We have provided bottles of Purell where auto dispensers were not feasible.

  • All lighting is no touch (Auto)

  • We have issued key fobs to all members to preclude the need to manually enter access codes. If you don’t have a key fob, please contact Hannah ASAP.

  • We have installed extra paper towel dispensers.

  • We require face masks in all common areas and are providing face masks to all members. If you do not have one please let us know and we will get one to you.

To prepare for the gradual reopening of business, we are now taking additional measures:

  •  We are in the process of acquiring acrylic shielding to install in the labs and office areas where appropriate and feasible between benches and desks.

  • We recently installed HEPA air purifiers for offices and common spaces.

  • We are removing snacks from drawers and using open baskets instead, this will reduce the need to touch and pull open drawers. All snacks will be individually wrapped.

  • We are working to install “no-touch” faucets and soap dispensers in all bathrooms and kitchens.

  • We have stocked up on hand sanitizer, toilet paper, gloves, and masks.

  • We are discussing internally how best to re-open the office side of the business and keep it safe – which may include continued limitations for office use, ongoing work from home, allowance of small meetings, and other measures.

  • We are researching many options and listening to other experts and companies for emerging best practices and will keep you informed on this over the next few weeks.

We continue to do our best to keep LabShares open and safe during these trying times. If you have other ideas, we’d love to hear them – we welcome your input!

We are continuing to stay open as best we can with reduced staffing through this difficult time. We're looking forward to returning to our usual operation, but for now, safety is our #1 priority and we are doing everything possible, from changing our office layouts to distancing benches in the lab to keep our community safe.
